Lace was the first coondog I owned. When I bought her she was five months old and I was 15. We won our first cast when she
was 14 months old and finished to Nite Champion at 2 years old. Lace continued to be my only dog for the next 8 years, until
one day I decided to get back into competition hunting and thought it would be nice to get some pups out of Lace before it
was too late. At that time Tony Foley still had Bullet at his place, so the cross was made and 60 days later I had my first
litter of pups. My wife and I picked out a male and female to keep and raise. Eight months later Lace was diagnosed with cancer
and passed away shortly thereafter. It's always hard loosing a dog but loosing your first and only dog is really tough. Every
so often I think back to the countless nights I followed her through the woods and the many friends I made because of her.
I think I could write a book about the stories she left with us. I am extremely thankful I was able to have the chance to
raise two pups out of her. Whether they made coondogs or not they would have never left here. Fortunetely, Dutch and Brandy
both turned out to be top notch coondogs. Brandy just so happens to be a carbon copy of her mother in looks, personality,
and hunting style.
